Nangal is the city of nature with greenary, lakes and full of nature.Nangal is a small town in the state of Punjab around 21 Km from Anandpur Sahib.It is surrounded by beautiful Shivalik hills Sutlej River and canal. Nangal is an important center of tourists.
History Name Nangal came from the name of village Nangal Nikku. Present Nangal is situated on the land of ancient villages Nangal Nikku,Hambewal and Dubheta the land aquired from these small vilaages in November 1955 when the construction planned of Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej River.Presently, Nangal is flourishing with Bhakra Dam, the Nangal Dam, Nangal Hydel Channel, and the Ganguwal and Kotla Power Houses.PeopleNangal people are brave educated and very hardworker. Nangal is still growing with population around 40,644+.There are many heroes came from Nangal. Captain Amol Kalia the brave hero of India who laid down his life fighting Pakistani intruders in Kargil in 1999. He was posthmously awarded shaurya chakra. School where he did his high school is named after him as Captain Amol Kalia Fertilizer Model School. The town is divided into two parts: Nangal Township and Naya Nangal Township. Naya Nangal serves mainly as a fertilizer complex of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL). Tahliwal is another emerging Industrial Area in the vicinity of Nangal. Several small scale industries have been set up and the numbers are still increasing. International Tractors Limited, Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with Renault, France are setting up a jeep production unit at Tahliwal, which will further boost the industrial presence of this small city. |
